Gamblers immensely prefer poker as a casino gambling game and all the various variations of the game has also found great favor among al players. One such variation of stud poker is the 7-card stud poker game and in casinos all over United States, this variant is considered popular second only to the Texas hold ‘em game.

A hand of 7-card stud poker can be played by any number between two and eight players and only requires a knowledge of the standard rules of the poker game and its hand values. The betting structure of this game is slightly different in home and casino games. While only ante wagers are found in home games of 7-card stud poker, casinos offer betting on both ante and bring-in. And in some casinos or in poker tournaments, where the gambling is on very high stakes, 7-card stud poker is one of the games played as H.O.R.S.E., with the others being Texas Hold ‘em, Omaha 8-or-better, Razz, and Seven card stud Eight or better.

When one plays a 7-card stud poker game, it starts with one holding the best poker hand and moves in clockwise direction. The opening round of betting is preceded by dealing of 2 hole cards and one card with its face up to each player. This is followed by the Fourth Street round where an up card is dealt and betting happens. Next is the Fifth Street round where another up card is given followed by third betting round. In the turn round, players receive their final up card and there is another betting round. Before the final betting takes place in the river round, the third and final hole card is dealt. The players who have not folded then clash for the showdown. Sometimes, the Fourth Street betting round is scrapped by dealing 2 hole and 2 up cards in the opening round, which makes Fifth Street the next betting round after an up card has been dealt.
